Barcade Chili Cook-off

Health Care for Artists
Thursday, February 28
6:30 p.m.
University of the Arts, Gershman Hall Chapel, 401 S. Broad St.
$12 general admission; free for UArts students and alumni; $10 for CFEVA affiliated artists. Pre-registration required; contact Genevieve Coutroubis by phone 215-546 -7775 x11 or email [email protected]

Artists in Philadelphia and throughout the country are more likely to go without health insurance or be underinsured, but this may change in a few years thanks to the Affordable Care Act. Join Jim Brown, National Director of Health Services at the Actors Fund, as he shares some changes to expect, tax credits that will be made available and programs that currently exist (such as the small business health care subsidy). There will also be a review and Q&A covering health coverage options here in Philadelphia.

This event is presented by the Corzo Center, Center for Emerging Visual Artists and Flying Kite as part of a special Direct Dialogue Series. Upcoming events include Press for Artists (in March) and Funding for Artists (in April). Please check the CFEVA calendar for additional details.

Funky Fridays

LaRose Jazz Club, 5531 Germantown Ave.

Flying Kite has been hanging in Germantown through our On the Ground program since mid-January. We’ve been meeting new friends, connecting with talented artists and uncovering hidden gems in the neighborhood. Just a couple of blocks from Vernon Park and around the corner from Maplewood Mall, LaRose Jazz Club hosts live music every weekend. With food, drinks and Scrabble (plus free parking!), it makes for a fun, funky, affordable night out in Gtown.
