Where (we) Live

One of Philadelphia's greatest treasures is currently underway. This is the 17th iteration of the Fringe Festival and the first under the organization's new name, FringeArts.

We've got a full review of The Quiet Volume, an experimental piece at the Free Library, but below are our other picks for this weekend.

The Object Lesson

Friday, September 15 only: 2 p.m. performance followed by a post-show discussion moderated by Nick Stuccio, president and producing director of FringeArts
Christ Church Neighborhood House, 20 North American Street (by 2nd and Market Streets)

Local writer Geoff Sobelle searches for meaning in a pile of stuff. It's an apt exploration in the era of hoarding and Storage Wars.

Leo

Y2D Productions in association with Chamäleon Productions
10 dates from September 12 through September 22
Arts Bank at The University of the Arts, 601 South Broad Street (at South Street)

Gravity ceases to work the right way in this family-friendly show filled with tricks of the eye and acrobatics.

On the Concept of the Face Regarding the Son of God

Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio
3 dates from September 12 through September 14
Suzanne Roberts Theatre, 480 South Broad Street

This hyper-experimental piece features a massive, iconic image of Jesus as the backdrop for all its action. Does the face indicate the power of god? His powerlessness? Or his absence?

Where (we) Live

So Percussion
3 dates from September 12 through September 14
Painted Bride Art Center, 230 Vine Street

This percussion group pushes the boundaries of musical performance, incorporating dance, theater, video and special guests. The piece builds an artistic "home" and opens the doors to the audience.

The Fringe Festival runs through September 22. For a complete list of performances and events citywide, click here.
