We wrote about why it's a model for nonprofit collaboration in June. Never heard of Uyghur? Find out why the geniuses at National Mechanics brought in guest chef Ahmet Mamut, an experienced veteran of restaurants in Kazakhastan and Krygyzstan, countries that share borders with the heartland of the Uyghur people's Turkic ethnic group. This rare culinary opportunity features Zagir Nan (crispy baked flat corn bread) and Gul tavak (a dish made up of beef and chicken roll, radish, tomato, cilantro, cucumber and carrot and resembles a flower). Seating is limited so make your reservation soon.

The Geographical Society of Philadelphia's weeklong event features adventurous, multimedia and culinary events for those interested in exploring the world through Philadelphia's cultural institutions and with some of the region's most exciting hosts and storytellers. From the opening festivities on Sunday, including World Coffee Tasting at AIA Bookstore (1218 Arch St.) and the Positively Polar exhibit at the Franklin Institute, to next Saturday's GEO-caching and XTreme Dream Dinner events, there is plenty to explore.
