PHILLY 3 FOR ALL: Schuylkill Tour and Movie, Black Music Fest, Beer Week Music Fest


Secrets of the Scuylkill River Tour and Movie Night

Start the weekend early on Thursday with a one-hour, guided tour of the Schuylkill on the RiverLoop vessel,which makes its maiden voyage for the season (select Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 16). That's followed by a screening of Will Smith's superhero flick Hancock, which is free and under the stars. Movies will be shown here every other Thursday through Aug. 18.

Philly Beer Week wraps up with an all-star day with the creative folks at Dock Street Brewery, who are featuring a Summer Session wheat beer with lemon grass and fresh ginger, a Sudan Grass Ale that's a traditional African gluten-free beer, and Pimp My Rye, a Philly Beer Week exclusive with rosemary, basil, oregano and black pepper. Acts include Bardo Pond, TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb, DA Comrade and City Wide Specials. Food includes a variety of pizza pies from a wood-fired oven and the Buttercream Cupcake Lady. Spend the day with Dock Street starting at 11:30 am. in Old City for the Dock Street to Dock Street Philly Beer Week Run.

Roscoe Mitchell at Great Black Music, A Festival Presented by Ars Nova Workshop

This festival, which began over the weekend, includes performances and public discussions with scholars and writers, celebrating the past and present work of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). Groundbreaking avant-garde jazz composer and performer Roscoe Mitchell's chamber works will be performed by the S.E.M Ensemble, Thomas Buckner, and Joseph Kubera plus the Roscoe Mitchell/Evan Parker Duo.
